Trauma is not only about surviving massive single disasters.
More often, trauma comes from years of small, repeated experiences where you felt unsafe, ignored, or forced to walk on eggshells. It can come from growing up with an unpredictable parent, staying too long in a toxic relationship, or dealing with chronic boundary violations.
How unresolved past stuff shows up now
- You react with sudden, intense anger or fear over things that seem small on paper.
- You feel an overwhelming urge to fix everyone's problems so nobody gets upset with you.
- You stay guarded and wait for things to go wrong in good relationships.
- Feeling totally numb or disconnected when stressful events happen.
- A deep, lingering feeling that something is fundamentally wrong with you.
Our approach using EMDR
When something painful happens and stays unprocessed, your brain stores it with all the original panic attached. EMDR uses eye movements or rhythmic tapping to help your brain process those memories properly. The memory stays, but the physical panic and emotional charge attached to it drop away.
How EMDR Therapy Online Works
EMDR is delivered online across Ontario using guided on-screen movement or self-tapping, so the process works the same as it does in a room. Many clients prefer virtual psychotherapy for trauma work because they can settle afterwards in their own space instead of driving home.
Your therapist is a Registered Psychotherapist and will pace the work with you. If old experiences still shape how you say no to people, see therapy for boundaries and people-pleasing, or browse all online therapy services in Ontario. For session costs and reimbursement details, see our fees and insurance page, or browse common questions on our FAQ.
